Explore Waccamaw Golf Trail for Best Myrtle Beach Golf!
For special Myrtle Beach golf packages, follow along the Historic Waccamaw River as you enjoy a great round or two of golf along the Waccamaw Golf Trail!
Waccamaw, after the Waccamaw Indians is a name long familar to the Carolinas. The Waccamaw River (perhaps better known as the Intracoastal Waterway in that area) flows from North Carolina to Winyah Bay, in Georgetown, South Carolina and now instead of old rice fields and former plantations, the river meanders past some of the finest Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island Golf.
You’ll see wildlife you don’t see in other areas, pileated woodpeckers are common as are “monkey squirrels”. You might even spot a Black Bear. Azaleas and dogwood flood the banks and bloom in the spring. Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park are just two year-round attractions.
No need to travel all over the state like the RTJ golf trail in Alabama, these courses are close and convenient to each other. Famous golf designers with golf course designs you’ll find hard to match. Among the award-winning golf courses on this newly instituted Waccamaw golf trail, four have been listed as “America’s Top 100 Public Golf Courses” by Golf Digest, and Willbrook Plantation was named in the “Top 25 Courses for Women in America” by Golf for Women.
Imagine some the of best golf you may ever play and you don’t have to drive miles to cover the trail - a distance of perhaps 15 or 20 miles from Blackmoor on Route 707 to the end of the Trail at Founder’s Club on Hwy 17 Bypass? Driving distance is NOT a problem, which means convenience for you and your golf group.
Play TPC of Myrtle Beach, Blackmoor or Wachesaw Plantation East at the northern end of the trail in Murrells Inlet. Travel a few more minutes south and you’ll be the Litchfield area of Pawleys Island Mainland, play golf at Litchfield Golf Club, the Tradiiton, Willbrook or River Club for starters. Just a few miles beyond that you can play Caledonia, True Blue, Pawleys Plantation and the new Founder’s Club.
What a golfing experience…some of the best golf courses you may ever play!
Beautiful Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, has enviable views of the old rice fields from it’s club house and sometimes the comments from the porch that overlooks the 18thhole will hassle you, but never doubt you are playing one of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” as named by Golf Digest. It’s also considered one of the most beautiful courses in the area due to old plantings, a welcoming avenue of Oaks and other scenery. Built on the original site of “Waverly Plantation”, the grounds date back to 1750 and before the golf course was built in the mid ’90s was home to “Ducks Unlimited” and other fantastic parties. Doc Lachicotte & Wilson Springs, the founders of Caledonia can be spotted many times at the little “fish camp” just before you make the turn into the road leading to the clubhouse. True Blue Golf Course and sister to Caledonia was ranked in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” in 2003.
We believe you’ll enjoy these golf courses more than most other courses you have played. Their proximinty adds to the fun. Or enjoy a golf-a-rama and play all Twelve! These golf courses are a glimpse into an unhurried life with beautiful surroundings, try them if you want to experience true Southern hospitality.
