Selecting a Golf Club Bag

Even casual golfers need a golf club bag. Simply put, traveling around the course requires a bag to hold ones golf clubs. The size of bag depends on the number of clubs you own as well as what accessories you have and what you want to carry along. A few places will throw in a standard bag with your club purchase, but you will probably want to upgrade if you need more features from your golf club bag.

That is what a good golf bag has.

You should make sure your golf bag comes with all the necessary hardware. There may be a ring where you can attach your car keys and hang a towel. Typically, a set of golf clubs includes 13 clubs and most bags contain enough space for all of them, in addition to a couple other items, such as an umbrella and a ball receiver that extends to retrieve balls from tight spots or water features. Today’s bags also may contain a special holder for a water bottle.

There will be two or three dividers in the bag itself to organize the clubs by woods, irons, etc. Some bags allows for further organization with plastic tubes which hold the shaft of the club in place. Head covers are needed to keep the club heads from banging against each other, and to avoid possible damage. Woods, in particular, can easily get dinged or the finish scraped off. A decent set of covers for the club heads can also be useful when your bag is being tossed around in the back of the cart.

The pouch should be able to tolerate travel. It may be worthwhile to invest in a custom carrier for your golf club bag if you travel much and enjoy playing golf at your destinations.

There are a variation of styles and colors. If playing in a tournament and using a caddy, make sure the caddy has the correct number of golf clubs in your golf bag at all times. Pay careful attention to the strap. When you are carrying the bag around the course, you need to look for sufficient padding to protect your shoulder from injury. Certain golf club bags have special back harnesses to balance the weight and reduce stress on your muscles.

No matter which type of golf club bag you choose, make sure it is a quality product made by a reputable manufacturer and contains all the features you feel are necessary to make your golf outings more comfortable.
