Things you should know to swing a golf club

If the first two lessons taught you how to get started with your backswing, and how to get yourself in a position when you can start with your downswing, this chapter will tell you on all you have to do to unleash the power on your shots.

What is the downswing

If backswing gave you a good platform to get your body in position
and be poised for the step where you unleash your power, the downswing is the step where
you do it - With a fluid motion of your arms, shoulders and hips, you are allowed to release all
the energy built within you during the backswing process.

Between the backswing and the final stage where you impart a lot of power on
to the ball, you will find a lot of change in tempo and techniques. This is natural for you to get
the power on to the ball, which must be accomplished by you by maintaining your balance and
focus.

A lot of beginners think that making the
transition from the backswing to the downswing is as easy as it comes, yet you will find most
of them finding it difficult because of the difference in principles that govern both these
stages.

The right way to start your downswing

The hips is where you would be focussing on, at least in the
initial stages of the downswing. Though, at this point, the entire body can be seen uncoiling,
but any change in positions to the arms and shoulders may come later, but really at this time
you would need to focus on uncoiling the hips.

One of the most important points in a downswing is the weight transfer from right to left foot, which is something not a lot of people get at first without practice. You will find a lot of people practicing this, and with time, get this weight transfer without any problem.

How to uncoil your body to accomplish the release of energy

After all the hard work you have done thus far, it is time for you to release all the
power built-up in you. First, remember that your wrists have to be in bent position. Just before you are about to hit the ball, you must make sure of releasing the wrists from the club, which will allow a good release of power.

After all this, it is time for the final push. Time for you to get your clubhead to
hitthe ball with as much power. While you do so, your body should not move a lot. Bring down the club with all the power you have in you, and if you do so, you will be able to feel the whip like impact in you.
