RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship
I don’t know what most people think of the guys in long drive. I have heard comments like, “They’re just a bunch of guys that swing as hard as they can and hope to catch one.” “They aren’t really golfers.”
That may have been true in the early years of the sport. But today’s upper tier long driver carries a low handicap… hits un-godly drives, yet has precision around the greens.
I want to encourage everyone reading this post to visit www.longdrivers.com and learn more about the modern long drive competitor. Perhaps find a long drive tournament in your area… preferabley an LDA sanctioned event. Or take the plunge and plan a vacation around the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships held each year in Mesquite, NV.
Along with the great competition you will see, there’s casinos, scenery, and fantastic golf! The atmosphere at the championship event is one that needs to be experienced. Classic and modern rock fills the entire area… names like “Nyleator,” “Predator,” “The Beast,” and “Golfzilla” (to name a few) are heard frequently… adding to the excitement of the week.
ESPN is there to cover the event along with notables from the world of sports. You never know who you will see! This sport is growing in popularity… attracting high profile names and fantastic golfers. You’ve got to see it to believe it!
I hope you can make it there this year! The week of October 20, 2008. The finals are held on Saturday, the 25th.
