Weight/Strength training for golf

If you have ever watched a professional long driver in action, you have probably asked the question, “How does he hit it so far?” The answer might surprise you… strength training.

Now strength training is just a part of it… you need a good golf swing to go with so much power. But, there is a common misconception that states you cannot workout with massive weight and have a fluid, non-constricted golf swing. Look at the likes of Nyle Pruitt, Jason Zuback, Kevin Bullard, J.D. Murkerson, or the reigning World Long Drive champion Mike Dobbyn. These guys are extremely powerful guys with pretty good, if not great, golf swings. They concentrate on the muscles of the golf swing… destroying the picture of the golfer working out with a broom handle over his shoulders and twisting a bit. The key to them being able to execute great golf swings while being super strong is that they stretch. They stretch a lot. For every minute they workout with weights they stretch for two. Keeping their muscles long and lean is key for a fluid golf swing.

Before you start blindly lifting weights, make certain you speak with a professional who can show you proper technique! It’s easy to hurt yourself and the weaker areas of your body if you do not seek professional advice first.
